Inclement Weather Task Force

Mount Airy Emergency Preparedness Task Force

Working Together to Keep Our Community Safe

The Town of Mount Airy has launched a new Emergency Preparedness Task Force to strengthen how we plan for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. While we are just getting started, our goal is simple: bring together local partners, first responders, and community members to make Mount Airy safer and more resilient.

What We’re Focusing On

Right now, the Task Force is exploring:

  • Hazard Identification: Looking at known problem areas like flooding, storm damage, and infrastructure risks.

  • Public Awareness: Sharing reliable resources so residents know how to prepare before, during, and after emergencies.

  • Collaboration: Ensuring fire, police, town staff, and partner agencies coordinate and share consistent messages.

  • Preparedness for All: Finding ways to reach residents, businesses, and vulnerable populations with clear guidance.

Why This Matters

Emergencies—from flooding at Twin Arch Bridge to extended power outages—affect all of us. By identifying risks early, educating the public, and coordinating with regional and state partners, we can help reduce confusion, prevent damage, and protect lives.

What’s Next

  • Gathering resources from the American Red Cross, National Weather Service, and Maryland agencies.

  • Reviewing problem areas across town and possible improvements.

  • Planning public education efforts, from brochures and websites to community meetings.

Get Involved

This Task Force is just beginning, and community input will be vital. Stay tuned for updates, upcoming meetings, and ways you can help us prepare Mount Airy for whatever comes our way.
