Commission of Aging and Livability (C.O.A.L.)

COAL

The Mount Airy Commission on Aging and Livability (C.O.A.L.) has been established to provide recommendations to the Town Council and Mayor in order to make Mount Airy a safe and secure community for people of all ages, to enhance and maintain a high quality of life, and to enable our seniors to age in place as much as possible.

The commission will be focused on working to meet the needs of older adults and caregivers in areas such as transportation, housing, health care, community services, recreation, etc. We fully understand the unique position of Mount Airy being in multiple counties, and will be working towards a cooperative and collaborative process across counties to come up with workable solutions.

If you have concerns regarding any of these issues, please contact Town Hall at 301-829-1424.

The commission was previously known as the Mount Airy Senior Task Support group (MASTS). This dedicated group of volunteers worked with local leaders and organizations to improve the lives of all residents within the 21771 zip code area, with a particular focus on those age 60+ and their caregivers. The key goal of MASTS was to provide critical information and solutions on issues important to good health and well-being, and to ensure that residents are aware of available valuable resources for a fulfilling life.
