The department is aware of some unknown individual(s) calling people indicating they are a Sergeant with the Mount Airy Police Department. They are then requesting payment for a citation in lieu of arrest. This is a scam!
The Mount Airy Police Department will never call anyone to demand payment for any reason. If you receive a call of this nature hang-up, do not send money, and report it to your local police agency.
