Streets and Roads Information

Posted on: September 10, 2018

[ARCHIVED] Frederick County Division of Emergency Management Notice

  • · Heavy rain bands causing localized flooding
  • · Potential road closures due to flood waters/debris
  • · Potential for overwhelmed streams and storm drains
  • · Increased potential for tornadoes
  • · Increased potential for strong straight-line winds
  • · Power outages
  • · Any scheduled outdoor activities should be carefully evaluated as the storm moves closer to our area.
  • · Verify status/fuel etc. for emergency equipment including generators
  • · Secure any outdoor items that could become projectiles in high winds
  • · Evaluate/relocate any storage that could be affected by floods entering structures or crossing properties

The upper end potential forecast for this storm (most severe impacts on the worst case track) is being described by NWS as “catastrophic levels of inland flooding” due to the concern that the storm will stall once it makes landfall over area which are already saturated. Current likely track is keeping the majority of the rain to our south so far. It is important to be clear that the current track is one possible scenario among many, and we are still enough days out where the track isn’t solid. Given our experiences in May, we should understand, and not underestimate, the potential.

More information will come out each day as we close in on an accurate forecast.

As a reminder, thanks to County DPW/Highways, City of Frederick DPW and the GIS teams of the City, County, and State working together, we have road closures available on a map at https://bit.ly/2wWaaIu or directly at https://maryland.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=dd8df89e5d604ea4a8f36cf20cd394ec&query=RoadClosureActive_9895%2CRC_GUID%2C%7Bbf6479e5-fb5e-488a-b469-86c53e24aa4a%7D in addition to the text list at www.frederickcountymd.gov/roadsclosed . These road closures are also being pushed live to Google, WAZE and others to try to route drivers away from closures/hazards when they are present.

If you have any specific concerns beyond the ordinary, please reach out toemergencymanagement@frederickcountymd.gov or 301-600-1746
