PFAS Background
In December 2022 the Town was notified by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) of its newest Health Advisory for PFAS in drinking water and that two of the Town's wells were slightly above that limit. The Town isolated the two wells per MDE's recommendation, however, may need to utilize these wells as needed during Summer higher demands. In January of 2023 the Town worked with a Consultant and the MDE to prepare a resolution to the problem to include continued monitoring of these wells, secure funding, and designing/constructing a treatment system to remove PFAS from the raw water. In March of 2023 the EPA set their proposed limit and the link is provided in this section. The new limit, if enacted by end of 2023, will impact multiple water stations to needing additional treatment. Timing for this treatment is anticipated to be completed in 2026. The Town will continue periodic testing. All sampling results and any other updates will be posted here.
